Suresh and Jega, who were charged with criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, have been acquitted by the Petaling Jaya (PJ) Magistrates’ Court. The court’s decision to acquit the accused without calling for their defence has brought a swift end to a case that had garnered considerable public attention.
Suresh and Jega were accused of criminal intimidation, a charge that carries severe penalties under Malaysian law, including potential imprisonment and fines. Criminal intimidation involves threatening another individual with injury to their person, reputation, or property, or to someone they care about, with the intent to cause alarm.
Representing the accused were esteemed lawyers Dato Geethan Ram and Revin Kumar. From the outset, the defense team maintained the innocence of their clients, arguing that the evidence presented by the prosecution was insufficient to substantiate the charges.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution presented its case, aiming to demonstrate that Suresh and Jega’s actions constituted criminal intimidation as defined by Section 506 of the Penal Code. However, after reviewing the evidence and hearing the arguments, the magistrate concluded that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused.
