In a recent ruling, Ravindran a/l Balan, 26, and Sathia Tamil Siva a/l Murasoli Maran, 28, were acquitted by the High Court. They faced charges under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and section 9(1) of the Poison Act 1952, with the former carrying a mandatory death penalty. The arrests occurred during a raid led by police on Balan a/l St Anthony’s home, where Ravindran, Sathia, and three others were apprehended. Methamphetamine was seized from a Mercedes Benz, prompting a trial where 18 witnesses were called by the prosecution. However, the judge, YA Datuk Noorin binti Badaruddin, found the prosecution’s case to be tainted with doubts and deemed it unsafe to convict the accused. Consequently, no rebuttal evidence was required from the accused, leading to their acquittal. They were represented by counsels Dato Geethan Ram Vincent and Revin Kumar.
