PORT DICKSON: A businessman with the title of “Datuk” was charged in the magistrates’ court here today with abetment in the murder of a technician last month.
R Ravi, 53, was charged with committing the offence with four others who had already been charged in connection with the death of A Vasudevan, 39, at a house in Bandar Springhill, between 5.40am and 9.45am on Nov 13.
The charge was under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and read together with Section 109 of the same law, which provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
No plea was recorded from Ravi, who nodded after the charge was read out to him before magistrate V Vanita.
Deputy public prosecutor Fatin Nur Athirah Zainuddin prosecuted while Ravi was represented by a team of lawyers led by Geethan Ram Vincent.
The court set Feb 15 for mention of the case.
The four who were jointly charged earlier were security supervisor A Devadas, 41, lorry driver Xavier Peter, 42, chief security officer M Murugan, 44, and Wong Yon Kuan, 43.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same legislation for the murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The suspects were also charged under Section 364 of the Penal Code with kidnapping the victim, an offence which also carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping.
Another person who is suspected to be linked to the murder is still at large.
