Thevadran A/L Mayalagan was acquitted and discharged by the High Court in Klang after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case for trafficking 117 grams of heroin and Monoacetylmorphines. The judge ruled that exclusiveness of access to the car where the drugs were found was not proven, and the prosecution did not establish that Thevadran had control, custody, or knowledge of the drugs. Arrested in August 2020, Thevadran was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Despite five prosecution witnesses testifying, the defense argued lack of proof of possession and knowledge, along with doubts regarding the identity of drug exhibits due to a break in the chain of evidence. Represented by Dato’ Geethan Ram Vincent and Mr. Revin Kumar, Thevadran was released without his defense being called.
